The Best Pizza Christmas Tree

Pizza Puff Pastry Christmas Tree

Say hello to the Pizza Puff Pastry Christmas Tree – a delightful combination of flaky puff pastry, gooey cheese, and savory pizza sauce. The best part? You only need five simple ingredients to create this holiday showstopper!

‘Tis the season to gather around and indulge in festive flavors! If you’re looking for the perfect appetizer that’s sure to please every age group, look no further.

What you’ll need to make the pizza puff pastry Christmas tree?

  • Puff pastry sheets (store-bought): one box comes with two frozen sheets. It makes about 10-12 Christmas trees, depending on how thin or thick you cut each strand.
  • Stuffing: this is all up to you. The simpler, the better, but I will include other variations below—classic pizza sauce with mozzarella cheese.
  • Cheese: Use shredded mozzarella, or if you want a cheesy explosion, use cheese slices (all up to you; can’t go wrong with extra cheese).
  • Pizza sauce: My family loves Rao’s pizza sauce. If you can’t find this brand, use your favorite marinara.
  • Golden Finish:  Before baking, give your Christmas trees a golden glow by brushing them with melted butter with Italian seasoning or pizza seasoning. This adds a beautiful sheen and contributes to that crispy, flaky texture we all love.
  • Star Toothpicks: I got mine from Amazon, which I’ll link here (Star Picks)

Three Delicious Variations:

1. Margarita Magic: Keep it simple and elegant with a Margarita variation. Use fresh basil leaves, cherry tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze for a sophisticated twist on the classic.

2. Meat Lover’s Dream: Go all-in with a Meat Lover’s version for those who crave a heartier appetizer. Add cooked sausage, pepperoni, or bacon bits for a savory explosion in every bite.

3. Veggie Delight: Embrace the season’s flavors with a Veggie Delight. Load your tree with colorful bell peppers, red onions, and spinach. It’s a nutritious and tasty option that even the little ones will love.

Ingredients:

– 1 package of Puff Pastry Sheets (thawed)

– 1/2 cup Pizza Sauce

– 2 cups (200g) Mozzarella Cheese (cheese squares or shredded)

– 1/4 cup melted butter

– 2 tsp Pizza seasoning or Italian seasoning

Tools:

– Rolling Pin

– Pastry Brush

– Star Picks

– Silicone baking mat or Parchment Paper

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper for easy cleanup.

2. Roll Out the Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. (Put one puff pastry aside)

3. Start with one puff pastry and spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the entire surface of the pastry.

4. Add your cheese squares to cover the entire surface of the pastry.

If using shredded cheese, Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce. Feel free to experiment with different cheese blends for added flavor.

5. Grab the other puff pastry and place it directly over the pizza-layered pastry.

6. Shape Your Christmas Tree: With a pizza cutter or knife, cut 10-12 strips. Fold the puff pastry to make the Christmas tree shape. Add the star skewer through the middle to hold its shape.

7. Place the trees on a silicone mat or parchment paper. Add spaces between them.

8. In a small bowl, mix melted butter and pizza seasoning and brush it over the entire surface of the pastry. This will give your Christmas tree a beautiful golden finish when baked.

9. Bake for 12-18 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

FYI: all ovens are not created equal; check the Christmas tree after 12-15 minutes if it needs more time.

10. Allow the Pizza Puff Pastry Christmas Tree to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve it up on a festive platter and pizza sauce.
