Deep-dish Pizza:

There’s nothing quite like a slice of deep-dish pizza to snack on with family this summer. It’s a fun activity to do with the kids. Deep-dish pizza is the ultimate comfort food with its thick, doughy crust and generous layers of cheese and sauce.

Whether you’re a fan of classic toppings like sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms, or you prefer to get creative with your toppings, deep-dish pizza is sure to please. And with its high-rise crust, deep-dish pizza is perfect for sharing with friends and family. So next time you’re looking for a delicious and satisfying snack or meal, remember deep-dish pizza. It’s the perfect way to warm your soul and satisfy your cravings.

Deep-dish pizza is popular for several reasons. Here are some of the most common:

  • Thick, doughy crust: Deep dish pizza has a thick, doughy crust baked in a deep dish pan. This gives the crust a lot of flavor and texture and helps hold up to the weight of the toppings.
  • Generous layers of cheese and sauce: Deep dish pizza is loaded with cheese, toppings, and sauce. This gives the pizza a rich, creamy flavor, and it also helps to make each slice incredibly satisfying.
  • Variety of toppings: You can top the pizza with various ingredients. Some popular toppings include sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and olives.
  • Comfort food: Deep-dish pizza is often seen as a comfort food. It is hearty and filling, and people of all ages can enjoy it.
  • Chicago tradition: Deep dish pizza is a Chicago tradition. It was invented in Chicago in the 1940s and has been a popular dish ever since.

Store-bought Pizza Dough:

If you’re looking for a convenient way to make pizza at home, then store-bought pizza dough is a great option. It’s quick, easy, and available in most grocery stores. If making your pizza dough from scratch is your thing, do what makes you happy. I used Trader Joe’s garlic and herb pizza dough for this recipe, which only cost $1.99 and was so delicious!

  • Speed: Store-bought pizza dough is pre-made, so you don’t have to spend time kneading, rising, etc. This can save you significant time, especially if you’re short on time.
  • Convenience: Store-bought pizza dough is typically sold in pre-portioned balls, so you don’t have to worry about measuring the ingredients. This makes it easy to get started on your pizza, even if you’re not a seasoned cook.
  • Variety: Many different types of store-bought pizza dough are available, so you can find one that suits your taste. You can find dough made with varying types of flour, such as whole wheat or gluten-free, and dough flavored with herbs or spices.

Ingredients

  • 2 impossible Italian sausage links
  • 1 store-bought garlic and herb pizza dough (Trader Joe’s brand)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 6 oz Mushroom
  • 1 Bell Pepper
  • Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 F.
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch cake pan with a removable base (for easy transferring)
  3. Follow store-bought pizza dough instructions (this varies)
  4. For Tj’s pizza dough, Gently remove it from the bag, place it on a lightly floured surface, and let it sit at room temperature for 30 min.
  5. While you wait for the pizza dough, prep the toppings.
  6. Sautee the mushrooms, then add the impossible sausage (remove the casing); once cooked, set aside.
  7. Cut the bell pepper into small cubes, and set aside.
  8. Once the dough is ready, roll out the pizza dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface, then add the dough to fit the cake pan. Press the dough however high you want it on the side of the cake pan.
  9. Bake for 5 minutes.
  10. Spread half of the marinara sauce over the dough.
  11. Layer half of the plant-based sausage, bell pepper, and mozzarella cheese.
  12. Repeat Steps 10 & 11.
  13. Spread olive oil around the dough.
  14. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Tips

  • Bake the dough 5 minutes before adding the toppings for a crispier crust.
  • Use your favorite plant-based sausage or if you are a meat eater, go wild and pick your favorite protein. There are many different brands and flavors available.
  • Get creative with your toppings! Some other popular deep-dish pizza toppings include onions, olives, and spinach.
