Shrimp Toast

Shrimp toast: the best and easy snack for any occasion

This crispy, golden-brown snack is made with a simple mixture of shrimp, bread, cheese, and seasonings. It’s easy to make at home and can be served as a snack, appetizer, or light meal. The key to making excellent shrimp toast is to use fresh shrimp. You can buy peeled and deveined shrimp or peel and devein them yourself. Once the shrimp are prepped, combine them with the other ingredients.

This toast is trendy at home; even my picky eater enjoys it. I love making this for my family, especially when I have a whole bag of frozen small shrimp. Shrimp toast is an excellent source of protein and healthy fats. Each 4oz serving of shrimp provides about 13g of protein. The protein in shrimp toast helps to keep you feeling full and satisfied, while the healthy fats provide your body with energy.

In addition to protein and healthy fats, shrimp also contains some other nutrients, including:

  • Selenium: Selenium is an essential mineral that helps to protect your cells from damage.
  • Zinc: Zinc is necessary for a healthy immune system.
  • Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is vital for energy production and brain health.

So, if you’re looking for a delicious and nutritious snack, shrimp toast is a great option! Just be sure to enjoy it in moderation, as it could be high in calories with other ingredients such as cheese and bread.

Here are some tips for making shrimp toast even healthier:

  • Use whole-wheat bread instead of white bread.
  • Use less oil when cooking the shrimp.
  • Serve with a fat-free sour cream and olive oil mayo.

Here are the ingredients needed to make shrimp toast for one serving:

  • Bread: 2 slices low carb bread or your choice of bread
  • Shrimp: 4oz peeled and deveined shrimp (if using frozen shrimp, please thaw under refrigeration, and read the packaging’s instruction for proper thawing to avoid food poisoning).
  • Seasonings: Creole seasoning, Kinder’s buttery steakhouse blend. (If you do not have any of these seasonings. Feel free to use what you have on hand, such as salt, pepper, old bay, garlic and onion powder, and lemon pepper seasoning).
  • Cheese: Shredded parmesan and mozzarella cheese. (You can also substitute this for cheddar, provolone, or your choice of cheese blend).
  • Sauce Base: Mayonaise and sour cream.
  • Garnish: Green onions and more parmesan cheese.

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat the air-fryer at 375F.
  2. Feel free to rough chop the shrimp to your liking; I did not cut the small shrimp for this recipe because they were small enough.
  3. Add the shrimp, creole seasoning, and Kinder’s buttery steakhouse seasoning in a medium bowl. Mix until all shrimp are fully coated and seasoned.
  4. Add cooking oil to a hot skillet and slightly cook the shrimp (2-3 min each side). Once cooked, set aside.
  5. Cut the two slices of bread in half (four triangle pieces).
  6. In another bowl, add mayo, sour cream, parmesan, mozzarella cheese, sprinkle creole seasoning, and Kinder’s buttery steakhouse. Mix and then add the cooked shrimp into the mixture.
  7. Spread the shrimp mixture evenly over the bread slices.
  8. If desired, sprinkle the bread with more parmesan cheese and green onions.
  9. Air fry the toast at 375F for 4-6 minutes or until the cheese is melted. (Always pre-heat the air-fryer).
  10. Serve hot, and enjoy!

Here are some variations of shrimp toast that you can try:

  • Water chestnut shrimp toast: This classic variation adds chopped water chestnuts to the shrimp mixture. Water chestnuts add a bit of crunch and sweetness to the toast and help keep the shrimp mixture moist.
  • Ginger shrimp toast: This variation adds grated ginger to the shrimp mixture. Ginger adds a bit of heat and spice to the toast and helps balance the sweetness of the water chestnuts.
  • Garlic shrimp toast: This variation adds grated garlic to the shrimp mixture. Garlic adds a bit of heat and flavor to the toast, and it also helps to enhance the taste of the shrimp.

You can also experiment with different seasonings and sauces to add your own unique twist to shrimp toast. For example, add soy sauce, sesame oil, or chili sauce to the shrimp mixture. You could also serve the shrimp toast with a dipping sauce, such as soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.

Here are different ways to cook shrimp toast:

Pan-frying: This is the traditional way to cook shrimp toast. Heat some oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Fry the bread slices, shrimp-side down, for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.

Deep-frying: This is a quicker way to cook shrimp toast, but it produces a greasy result—heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F. Fry the bread slices, shrimp-side down, for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.

No matter how you cook it, shrimp toast is sure to be a hit! Shrimp toast is a delicious and versatile snack that people of all ages can enjoy.
